Robin Hood (1973)... Lives UP!

83 Minute Runtime? You're welcome.

Disney's Robin Hood is the first of 3 major Robin Hood movies that played on repeat during our childhoods, and we felt this lived up. It has a short runtime and is enjoyable even for adults - which is great news for Jess since her kids also watch this movie on repeat now.

Unlike modern animated kids movies which often tuck in some humor for the adults, the 1973 Robin Hood came out too early for that trend. This is a straight up kids movie... but still, it has a few jokes that went over my head as a kid. Here are my favorites:

Little John: The next time that sheriff'll probably have a rope around our necks. Pretty hard to laugh hangin' there, Rob.
Robin Hood: Ha! The sheriff and his whole posse couldn't lift you off the ground.

Lady Kluck: I'm getting too old for this. –
Marian: Klucky, that was a good shot.
Lady Kluck: You're not bad yourself, dear. Oh, my girdle killing me.
(the Chicken is wearing a girdle? Hahahahaha!)

Skippy: You gonna have any kids? My mom gots a lot of kids.

Sir Hiss: It's him! It's Robin Hood! I just can't wait till I tell His Majesty. Unhand me, you-- [ Grunts ] Please, please! I don't drink!

Prince John: They'll be singing a different tune. Double the taxes! Triple the taxes! Squeeze every last drop... out of those insolent, musical peasants!

Okay, so Robin Hood isn't exactly a comedy show for adults, but it's still wholesome and clever enough to not be annoying. We think it Lives Up.
