Clue... Lives UP!

Let's do the Time Warp again.

We rewatched the 1985 boardgame-based murder mystery Clue and voted that yes... it does live up. Tim Curry as the Butler sets the mood, and then ramps up his performance to a point of incomprehensible mayhem. The script is witty, the setting and costumes are beautiful. And we're still not totally sure who dunnit.

Red lipstick and red fingernails - the ladies of Clue put this movie over the top. We have 3 Oscar-nominated actresses unleashed in this murder mansion:

Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White
Madeline Kahn stars in many Mel Brook's movies, and received an Best Supporting Actress nomination for starring with the O'Neal family in Paper Moon (she ultimately lost to co-star Tatum O'Neal, who still holds the record as the youngest person ever to win an Oscar).
In Clue, she portrays the ultimate Merry Widow, Mrs. White. It's unclear how many husbands she's murdered, but she demonstrates her marital jealousy with Kahn's ad-libbed speech about "Flames on the side of my face!" Madeline Kahn is hilarious. Mrs. White is an unhinged, glass-throwing murderer.

Leslie Ann Warren as Ms Scarlett

Leslie Ann Warren joined the cast as a last minute replacement for Carrie Fisher (who also would have been excellent here), and knocks it out of the park as the flirty, shameless Ms. Scarlett. Warren received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in Julie Andrew's Victor/Victoria.
As Ms. Scarlett, Warren squeezes herself into a corset and ballgown then sprints around the mansion effortlessly. She's the only one who seems to enjoy the whole blackmailing plot and subsequent murders. At the end, she's partially undone by her inability to keep track of how many bullets she's fired, but no matter! Leslie Ann Warren's Ms Scarlett is criminally fun.

Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock

Eileen Brennan played our favorite trainwreck mother in Babes in Toyland. She scored a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in the Goldie Hawn flick, Private Benjamin. Overall, she's quickly growing on the LiveUP podcast crew as one of our favorite agents of chaos.
In Clue, once again, she plays a trainwreck. Mrs. Peacock cannot stand silence, and rambles on-and-on whenever the rest of the guests have fallen silent. She screams at random moments. Her presence in the house increases the volume exponentially. Overall, she's a bumbling mess -- and the LiveUp Pod is 100% here for it!
