Where's Hoggle? |
We reviewed Labyrinth and voted that yes, David Bowie + Jennifer Connolly + Jim Henson's creatures live up! It's still fun to watch; and still a fantastic couples costume for Halloween.
We spent the podcast episode exploring the journey of these characters during the film. Now, let's take a moment to find out what happened to the puppets after the film.
Jim Henson's creatures require careful storage to preserve, and there's so many in this movie they couldn't save them all. Some of the goblin puppets were auctioned off.
Some of the creatures eventually went on display at exhibits.

Most famously, the Hoggle puppet disappeared completely. Jim Henson had boarded a plane with Hoggle in his checked luggage, and when he landed, the puppet was gone. Had goblins kidnapped it for real?
Hoggle turned up years later in unchecked baggage. Parts of his face had ripped away revealing the mechanics underneath that controlled his facial expressions. Pretty grotesque. In 2022, artists finally re-crafted the puppet to restore it to the way it appeared in the movie.
Hoggle now resides at the Unclaimed Baggage Museum in Scottsboro, Alabama.
