We would've loved a When Jess Met Marie sequel |
After a long break, The LiveUp Podcast is back with our first film review of 2025: "When Harry Met Sally" This movie totally lives up to our memories of it being great. We reviewed the film before we caught wind of the When Harry Met Sally commercial that will air during the 2025 Superbowl; we're so glad Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan have teamed up again.
The Superbowl commercial and our fond memories of When Harry Met Sally center around the iconic deli scene where Sally demonstrates - loudly - how women fake orgasms. It's such a popular cinematic moment that the library DVD that Amanda watched froze on it... too many people had skipped ahead to that scene that they damaged the DVD.
Amanda cites that her all time favorite parody skit ever came from an episode of Muppets Tonight where they rewrote the fake orgasm scene; in the Muppets version, Miss Piggy demonstrates how to fake a sneeze. Just add a little "choo!" at the end, and it's suddenly appropriate for children. You can watch Miss Piggy fakes a sneeze skit on YouTube.
"Ahh... ahh... ahh... ahh... choo!" |
Screenwriter Nora Ephron - may she and her brilliance rest in peace - did not write the fake orgasm into the original script; the actors added this on set. Even without it, When Harry Met Sally is one of the greatest screenplay's ever written. It got nominated for an Academy Award, but lost to Dead Poets Society (okay... that's actually fair).
