The Muppet Movie...Lives UP!

It's a Muppet Movie within a Muppet Movie! It turns out that you don't need to have watched this movie before (or at least the first half of it) for The Muppet Movie to live up to your memory of Muppet mayhem... this movie has so much charm, so much humor, and so much insanity that it doesn't need any nostalgia to make you feel happy. As adult viewers, we got a huge kick out of all the cameos in this film. Ranked on order of creativity, impact, and silliness, here are the best: Our Favorite Cameos in The Muppet Movie 5. Orson Welles as "Lew Lord", head of World Wide Studios Citizen Kane himself shows up as the final barrier to the Muppets' Hollywood dream. Orson Welles looks appropriately intimidating with his cigar behind the elevated desk surrounded by Oscar trophies. Ferris Bueller's Day Off... does NOT live up.

Everyone's a critic. Jess and I didn't love this movie as much as our teenage selves did... and you can listen to our Live UP podcast episode to hear all the reasons why (see below!). Instead, let's talk about why Ferris Bueller's Day Off wouldn't work anymore (because of outdated technology), and provide practical modern day solutions for today's teens.... Because how could you possibly be expected to handle school on a day like this? 1. Convince your parents you are too sick for school 1986 Version - Ferris stays in bed and licks his hands to make them seem "clammy", which works on his oblivious parents and never ever worked again after this movie came out. "Clammy" isn't a symptom of anything ever, and modern day parents have Web MD**. No fever, no vomiting? You're going to school. 2023 Version - Tell your parents you feel achy and your throat is a little sore... but you're sure it's fine. You heard one of your classmat

Hook... does NOT live up.

Who wants to watch Hook again? Jessica and I have huge differences of opinion on this movie: Jessica thinks Hook is a perfect 10. I think it's a two and a half hour waste of time. We discussed our respective arguments during the podcast (listen below!), but I'd like to take a deeper dive on how this movie begins. The first five minutes of any movie should set the tone for the entire film. Hook opens with shots of children's faces staring at a school play (this movie is already killing me... RE: our bonus episode on kid's recitals ). Onstage, kids act out the moment Wendy and Peter Pan met. The kids form a chorus and sing a super irritating song. Adult Peter Pan's cell phone rings, and he takes the call during his daughter's play because he's an asshole. With this school play opening, I think the filmmakers wanted to convey some sort of childish awe... but instead it comes across as dull (and annoying when the singing begins). Our main character sucks.
